The Golden Spike Days Festival is one of the oldest and longest running family events in BC and are proud to have been named to The Tri-City News’ A-List as ‘Favorite Community Event,’ multiple years running. The festival is held at Rocky Point Park around Canada Day, attracting upwards of 40,000 people of all walks of life with live entertainment, special events and activities for all ages. Our event commemorates the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway line and its arrival at the original western terminus in Port Moody where the LAST SPIKE was driven.
Port Moody Golden Spike Days Festival is coordinated by a dedicated group of Volunteers who work tirelessly to produce a fun Family Event Come join us for the 45th annual Golden Spike Days festival. We acknowledge that the Golden Spike Day Festival is taking place on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem First Nation). We thank the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm who continue to live on these lands and care for them, along with the waters and all that is above and below.
We also acknowledge that many communities have grieved the discovery of the 215 children who were taken from their families and communities and died at the Kamloops Residential School as part of the history of Indigenous genocide in this country. The Golden Spike Days Festival sends their deepest condolences to all the affected families. Reconciliation requires education and an ongoing commitment from each of us.
For more information on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem First Nation), please visit their website at www.kwikwetlem.com and follow them on social media: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
To learn more about Canada’s Indian Residential School System, there are many resources, including books you can read and films you can watch. Some 150,000 Indigenous children were removed and separated from their families and communities to attend residential schools across Canada. While most of the 139 Indian Residential Schools ceased to operate by the mid-1970s, the last federally-run school closed in the late 1990s.
